Trusting Allah

By: Dr Shariffa Carlo

At some point in our lives, we have all had our trust betrayed. There exist few of us who trust anyone implicitly. The same goes for principles or philosophies. We have trusted them, only to be disappointed. In the same light, we have followed religious scholars, only to find that they too have betrayed us – either by being undereducated or imperfect. Maybe that is why it is so hard for us to let go of ourselves and truly trust Allah.

When we start to analyze a command, we find in it things we can not explain or fully understand, so we stop doing it or do the thing which was forbidden to us, because the opposite does not make sense to us. Let me put that in more specific terms: We know that at the 120th day of life, Allah writes for us our sustenance (risq).

Narrated Anas bin Malik: The Prophet said, “Allah puts an angel in charge of the uterus and the angel says, ‘O Lord, (it is) semen! O Lord, (it is now ) a clot! O Lord, (it is now) a piece of flesh.’ And then, if Allah wishes to complete its creation, the angel asks, ‘O Lord, (will it be) a male or a female? A wretched (an evil doer) or a blessed (doer of good)? How much will his provisions be? What will his age be?’ So all that is written while the creature is still in the mother’s womb.”
[Sahih al-Bukhari

Islam – The Easy Way

By: Khurram Murad

One of the terms used by the Qur’an during the early Makkan period to describe Islam was Al-Yusraa, or ‘The Easy Way’. This is simply because Islam was, and is the natural way of life. Indeed, whatever is natural for human beings should be easy for them in every way, hence cause them to gravitate towards it easily, and consequently bring harmony, peace and tranquillity to their lives. Since the Qur’an is the book upon which the Islamic way of life is built, then the Qur’an has to be easy to understand and follow-it is ‘The Easy Way’.

This view that Islam is easy to understand and practice, is one which is derived from the primary sources of Islam. In the Qur’an, Allah comforts us by continuously reassuring us that He desires for us ease not hardship, despite the seemingly formidable trials and tribulations that we may sometimes face. He says: “God desires ease for you, and desires not hardship” [2: 185]; “Truly with hardship comes ease’ [94: 6]; “God will assuredly appoint, after difficulty; easiness” [65: 7]; “Whoso fears God, God will appoint for him, of His command, easiness” [65: 4]; “We shall speak to him, of our command, easiness” [18: 88]; “God desires to lighten things for you, for the human being has been created weak” [94: 28].

In addition to the Quran, the Hadith literature is

The Psalms of life

Tell me not in mournful numbers,
“Life is but an empty dream!”
For the soul is dead that slumbers,
And things are not what they seem.

Life is real! Life is earnest!
And the grave is not its goal;
“Dust thou art, to dust returnest,”
Was not spoken of the soul.

Not enjoyment, and not sorrow,
Is our destined end or way;
But to act, that each tomorrow

The Prophet of Islam

Unequalled in brilliance, unique of kind,
Art thou, O Great Prophet! to all mankind,
Never on earth a nobler soul has trod,
Never had another showed a true way to God,
Never on earth a better soul was born,
Never the world did a purer soul adorn.

Man was fast sinking in idolatry and sin,
When thou thy great mission did first begin.
From the Arabian deserts thou taught mankind,
How the truest knowledge of God to find,
Then in place of darkness thou light did give,
And taught mankind the noblest way to live.

A more perfect Prophet never can we find,
Than thee who, thank God, gave Islam to mankind,
My life, my all, for thee I gladly give,
Thy divine messages shall with me for ever live,
My love for thee no bounds doth know,
In my heart thy memory shall forever glow,
May Allah shower His choicest blessings on thee,
May Allah grant thee peace for all eternity

Ameen

Praying for a Better Tomorrow

Torment grows while we spill our tears
O dear Muslims!
perhaps Allah we do not fear!
tribulation is with us
and more rising sorrow
let us pray for a better tomorrow

Tragedy overtakes us
our heart is suffocating
remedies are shallow
no action but debating
unfair opinions offer unfair conclusions
let us pray for a better solution

Our future is tainted
and our troubles are thickening
our light was once bright
but now dim and flickering
but promises from Allah of joy and sweet laughter
let us pray for a better hereafter

Our life is continuing with ever more pain
dear servants of Allah!
we are punished without shame
but hold fast to Allah, pray this decision
serve Allah in total submission.

Whenever…

Wherever I guess a trace
I rush with all my might
just for getting a hint
of the path leading to you.

Whenever I hear your name
my heart misses a beat
All blood rushing to my face
guilt overwhelming me.

Whenever I stop to reflect
I find an empty void
How can I dare Lord
to invite you into my heart?

Wherever I see rebellion

My Allah…

My Allah teach me how to attain your love
for long have I filled my heart with dust.

My Rabb teach me to see you in all that exists
for long have my eyes feasted on lust.

My Allah show me the reality as it needs be seen
for long has falsehood made me rust.

My Rabb grant me company of those you love
for long have I accompanied the unjust.

My Allah lead me onto the right path now
for long have I been a wanderlust.
